A good day for Ljubljana28. 2. 2020
Ljubljana Makes It to the European Capital of Culture 2025 Shortlist!
This Thursday was a great day for Ljubljana, a candidate city for the title of European Capital of Culture. It was also a great day for the 25 municipalities of the region that are participating in the programme. A panel of twelve judges, ten of them international and the remaining two from Slovenia, whittled the longlist of six cities down to four that will compete for the title until December. Our hard work has paid off, our efforts to transform the city and its region through culture continue, and we’re looking forward to it!
Since 2016, when Ljubljana’s bid for the title of European Capital of Culture 2025 was first included among the city’s strategic goals, many interesting processes have taken place, reflecting on the city, its values and the expectations of its inhabitants. Public discussions, networking and reflection – in the cultural sphere as well as in the fields of education, social issues, environmentalism, healthcare, tourism and science – have revealed ever greater ambition for development. The past year also saw the evolution of a concept of polycentric development of the capital, as well as a broader reflection of regional development through the European Capital of Culture project. All of this has led to an avalanche of profound and creative ideas, which seem to have convinced the international jury of Ljubljana’s seriousness. Many of these ideas can be found in our bid book.
We are thus committed to keep working hard and are looking forward to your feedback regarding Ljubljana’s bid, which you can provide at EPK2025@ljubljana.si. Only with your input can we become the best!
